This is short, planned care which can range from a few hours to a maximum of two weeks at any one time. Respite care is offered to a variety of families. This can include children who still live at home and additional support has been identified to assist the family, to children in adoptive families and to children living in foster placements. This service is for all age groups, including older children and teenagers. By offering respite care, it allows the child to enjoy time in a different family setting and gives their parents or carers time and space should they have a family situation to deal with. Again this type of foster service allows people to get experience of fostering while also being able to continue their employment.
