Short Break Care

Short Break Care

This is a fostering service offered to children and families where the child is still living at home but the family require additional support. Typically, short break foster carers will offer care to a child aged 8 years plus once a week for after school tea and offer overnight care at a weekend once or twice a month. Usually, the short break care scheme is offered for a fixed period of time such as six months and is often reviewed to make sure the child and family are benefiting. The aim of the service is to address the difficulties that the family are facing and to work towards making changes, often in parenting style, to effect change. Often the short break foster carer will speak to the child and the parent about how the week has gone and how their behaviour has been. This service can offer those people who are considering a fostering career, whilst maintaining other family or work commitments. Children who access the short break scheme are usually aged 8 years plus, however we work on a case by case basis.
